Legs of the Mohicans

Last night, Sharmin and I popped down to the Dover Street Market for the private view of Stephen Jones' Retrospective. The store was crammed with many of Stephen’s close friends and collaborators including the owner of Dover Street, Rei Kawakubo. Isabella Blow was also there, one of many eager to show their appreciation for Jones’ 25 years in millinery, glamorously attired in one of his beautiful creations. The sheer scale of Jones’ collection is phenomenal- it took us over an hour to cover four floors of a possible six. Each floor is based on a theme, around which Jones’ creations are displayed in cabinets and hung from invisible threads hanging from the ceiling. Meanwhile an intriguing collage-like display of Jones’ source material and inspiration creates an amazing spectacle on the second floor. The store’s interior and its carefully considered collections, including those by John Galliano and Comme des Garcons of course, provide an ideal backdrop to Jones’ longstanding collaborations with designers of varying aesthetics. Make your way down to Dover Street to feast your eyes on delights such as the design pictured above before it all ends on the 7th January.
